What is River Runs Wild virtual Run & Walk?
The goal is to keep people motivated to stay active while supporting local businesses. The luxury of a virtual run is that you may complete this run (or walk) anytime between now and June 27, 2020 from anywhere. You may also break up the distance however you want. So all ages and ability levels are encouraged to stay active while supporting a cause.
Although you may not be able to physically race with your friends, encourage them to join in and share our Facebook event. Or make it a family activity. Or just a fun outing for Fido.
Distance options for a single event include 5k, 10k, half-marathon, marathon, or 50k. And in this virtual event you can even spread the distance out over multiple days!
We encourage you to consider making a four week commitment in which you increase the distance you cover each week.
Week 1 = 5k (3.1 miles)
Week 2 = 10k (6.2 miles)
Week 3 half-marathon (13.1 miles)
Week 4 marathon (26.2 miles) OR 50k (31.1 miles)
Don’t be intimidated, with a commitment of 1.25 hours of walking a day, a walker at a brisk pace 3 miles per hour can cover 26.2 miles in a week! YOU CAN DO THIS!
COST AND CAUSE
This virtual event was inspired after reading an article about the harsh economic impacts of local businesses. All net proceeds go directly to programs that assist our small, locally-owned businesses in partnership with the Wausau River District.
Registration costs $20 per person per event or $50 per person for four weeks. Racers may pre-print their bib and will receive a commemorative event bib and sticker (including domestic postage) and discount to any 2020 IRONBULL event.
PRIZES
To encourage all ability levels and ages, we have lots of ways to win prizes and you don’t need to be the fastest to win! Prizes will be drawn randomly from all official finishers.

Rules
Due to Safer at Home orders, we ask that you abide by all current regulations including social distancing.
To be an official finisher, you must complete the distance you register for AND submit at least one picture participating in the event which may be posted on social media. You may post the picture yourself on social media, send to IRONBULL via Facebook messenger, or email pictures here. If you win a prize, be ready to provide proof (which may include Strava screenshot, selfies along run/walk, FitBit or Garmin data, or picture from treadmill panel).
You may break up your distance however you want; however, for the fastest time you must count any breaks in your total time. So if you ran 10 miles in the morning starting at 8 am and completed 16.2 miles at 5 pm, your 26.2 mile segment total time is 9 hours.
Limit of one prize per person. If you have the fastest time for multiple distances you will receive a prize for the longest distance.
The walk / run(s) must be submitted before June 27, 2020. So if you’re doing the four week challenge this means you need to start week 1 no later than June 6, 2020.
If participating in the four week challenge, you may start week 1 at any time but once you start then you must complete the challenge in 28 days. For example if you start week 1 on Tuesday, May 19 you must start week 2 on Tuesday, May 26, week 3 on Tuesday, June 2 and week 4 on Tuesday, June 9 and finish week 4 before Tuesday, June 16.
Note: This is NOT an official race and you do so at your own risk. Be safe, make good choices, follow all applicable directives regarding public lands and CDC recommendations, and make sure you have gear suitable for your local environment.
