Wife drives life transformation for ex-Marine

Just a year ago, Sonny never imagined signing up for a 50-mile bike race. Since then, Sonny transformed his life, giving up alcohol and devoting to a healthier lifestyle. After a lifetime of spending his time on the water, boating, surfing and soaking up the sun, Sonny decided he needed a new challenge that would benefit his health & fitness. Sonny credits his wife, Nicole, “She has been my biggest inspiration for my life transformation.”

Sonny started by biking this summer a few days a week to work and fell in love with it! Then his son and Nicole followed suit; before they knew it they were spending a lot of time biking the trails as a family!

After deciding to do a competitive bike race this year Sonny was happy to find the Red Granite Grinder, and he got Nicole to agree to do it with him, even though 50 miles is intimidating!

Sonny kept telling Nicole, “We are doing this for us…starting and finishing together!” And that’s exactly what they did. Despite challenging course conditions, they finished the event together. Sonny, an ex-Marine, admits it was not easy, "I am not even sure words can put it into perspective. It became more about survival and out lasting the competition. Hands down hardest thing I have ever had to do!"
