What is the Wausau Duathlon & Triathlon Challenge?
The Wausau Duathlon & Triathlon Challenge is designed to both introduce the sport to new racers and allow seasoned veterans the opportunity to compete in the summer of 2020 and support the Woodson YMCA with all proceeds. All courses are marked and located in the Wausau area with maps, GPS files, and cue sheets provided after registration. Choose a single challenge or compete in all three! All three courses are different, utilizing many of our local parks and local bike accommodations. The water (paddle or swim) portion is optional for all courses. Not a runner / biker? Do as a relay!
Long Course
Participants may complete the course anytime Aug 14-23, 2020
Flatwater paddle (optional): 4 miles or pool swim* (optional): 1000 yards
Road bike: 18 miles
Trail run: 6 miles
Road bike: 14 miles
More details (course markings, description, start/finish and transition area addresses) and the exact course (course description, maps, GPS files, cue sheet) will be emailed to you after registration.
Mini challenge - COMPLETED
Perfect for a new duathlon / triathlon participant!
Participants may complete the course in any order, anytime July 17-26, 2020
Flatwater paddle (optional): 1 mile or pool swim* (optional): 200 yards
Bike: 3.4 miles
Run: 0.8 mile
Short Course - Completed
A challenge for those wanting to compete in a sprint course
Participants may complete the course anytime July 31-Aug 9, 2020
Flatwater paddle (optional): 2.5 miles or pool swim* (optional): 400 yards
Road bike: 14.3 miles
Run: 2.8 miles
*Swim courses are not marked as part of the course - Woodson YMCA members may reserve a pool time to complete that portion of the event.
SWAG and prizes
Everyone who signs up will receive an event t-shirt (if signed up by 8/2) and finisher medal they can pickup anytime Friday Aug 21 between 3 pm and 7 pm or Saturday Aug 22 9 am to 12 pm at the Woodson YMCA. If you prefer to team up to complete as a relay, register the same as an individual, just select the relay category when you submit your result and you’ll both be official finishers. Prizes will be awarded after each challenge concludes.
All official finishers are eligible for special awards and choice of raffle prize including:
Entry to any 2020 IRONBULL event
IRONBULL hat
IRONBULL mug
IRONBULL growler
There are multiple ways to win!
1) One prize will be drawn randomly from all official finishers for each challenge and will be announced at the conclusion of that event. To be an official finisher, you must submit your result and picture. You may earn unlimited entries, if you complete the course and submit each result!
2) You are encouraged to post on social media. To be eligible to win our prize for best social media post please post both in our event and on your personal profile (Facebook and/or Instagram) using #IronbullYTriChallenge. The winner will have a single post that gets the most reactions and/or comments during the time frame of the event. Be sure to make your post public so we can find and see it!
You may use our digital social media frame. Directions to add frame: Hover over your profile picture when viewing your profile, click on update that should appear over your profile picture, click add frame, search IRONBULL and choose the frame you like best!
3) The fastest individual triathlon time (cumulative so include all transition times):
Male - long course
Female - long course
Family (multi-generation team that participates all disciplines together) - mini and sprint courses
Updates including fastest times will be periodically updated on our website and Facebook page.
Every registrant earns a discount to any 2020 IRONBULL event upon result submission.
Cost and cause
Registration costs $35 per person for a single challenge or $60 per person for two or three challenges and includes an event t-shirt (if registered by 8/2/20) and medal or cowbell for all registrants. 100% of net proceeds will be donated to Woodson YMCA, which depends on the annual triathlon to fund many programs.
